Krasnodar Court dismisses Mikhail Savva's appeals against his sentence

Today, the Krasnodar Regional Court has upheld the verdict against Mikhail Savva, Professor of the Kuban State University, who was sentenced on charge of fraud. The Court has dismissed the appeals filed by the defence and by Mikhail Savva himself. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by advocate Marina Dubrovina.

According to the advocate, the verdict against Mikhail Savva has come into force today. Marina Dubrovina has emphasized that the Professor intends to continue appealing against the Court's decision.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2, the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Krasnodar sentenced Mikhail Savva, a Professor of the Kuban State University and Director of Grant Programmes of the Southern Regional Resource Centre (SRRC) to three years of conditional imprisonment with 2 years of probation and a fine of 70,000 roubles. On April 13, professor Savva’s defense challenged the verdict.

Let us remind you that a number of human rights organizations spoke against the prosecution of Mikhail Savva. They have pointed out that the Professor was detained soon after he criticized the actions of the law enforcement bodies that carried out inspections of NGOs in the regions of the southern Russia.
