NAC promises to open Gimry Tunnel on October 5
The Gimry Tunnel will not be opened for traffic until October 5 because of the special operation. This was reported by an official from the Operative Headquarters of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) in Dagestan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, the Gimry Tunnel was closed, since law enforcers cordoned off the village of Vremenny of the Untsukul District. Initially, the Gimry Tunnel was to be opened on September 23. Then, the opening of the Gimry was repeatedly postponed, and for the last time, it was scheduled for October 1.
"The Gimry Tunnel was to be opened today. However, because of the ongoing antiterrorist operations, it opening was postponed on October 5," the "TASS" quotes a NAC's official as stating.
According to the NAC's official, in the Buynaksk and Untsukul District, law enforcers every day find large numbers of weapons, explosives and bunkers, which could shelter militants, the "Chernovik" (Draft) reports with reference to the NAC's official.
The Gimry road tunnel connects nine mountainous regions and the centre of Dagestan. It is the longest road tunnel in the territory of Russia.
