Ten Zverevo residents go on endless hunger strike demanding to return utility benefits

Today, ten residents of the city of Zverevo, Rostov Region, have announced an indefinite hunger strike demanding the restart of suspended payments of benefits for housing and communal services, Valery Dyakonov, a member of the initiative group of Zverevo residents and a Deputy of the City Duma, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Two weeks ago, the recipients of federal benefits from Zverevo sent their appeals to all the persons and entities involved in the problem of suspended benefits, namely: the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Rostov Region, the Regional Public Prosecutor and the City Prosecutor of Zverevo. The appeals warned that in two weeks they would announce a mass protest action in the form of an endless hunger strike," said Dyakonov, adding that the appeals were signed by 25 residents of the city.

However, according to his story, the payment of benefits was not restarted; the authorities did nothing. Therefore, a decision was made to start a hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting June 2, the initiative group held a protest march from Zverevo to Rostov-on-Don after the City Department of Social Welfare had frozen their legitimate benefits.
