In Azerbaijan, advocates of convicted activists Mamedov and Yagublu complain about non-admission to their clients
The defenders of the oppositional politicians Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu, convicted on charges of the riots in the city of Ismayilly, stated that since the end of consideration of the appeal complaint on September 24 they are not allowed to meet their clients. The advocates treat it as a violation of their clients' rights.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu were accused of organizing mass riots on January 23-24, 2013, in the city of Ismailly. Despite the criticism from the international community and human rights organizations, Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu were sentenced to seven and five years in prison.
Back on September 25, Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu were placed into the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 3, located in the settlement of Shuvalan, Khalid Bagirov, Mamedov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Since then, they are not allowed to meet their advocates, and to have telephone conversations or to see their relatives. We are told that if the place of detention has changed, we need to re-apply to the Penitentiary Service and ask for permission to visit them," said Bagirov.
Such actions on the part of the Penitentiary Service are unlawful, says the lawyer. According to his version, defenders should be able to immediately and freely meet their clients.
