Tbilisi policemen prevent clashes of "Free Zone" supporters and opponents

Supporters and opponents of the NGO "Free Zone" held rallies at the Tbilisi office of the NGO. The number of people who attended the rally organized by supporters of the NGO was twice as much as the number of those who attended the opponents' rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 23, members of the youth movement "Free Generation" held a rally demanding the self-liquidation of the NGO "Free Zone" associated with the ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili's "United National Movement" Party. The members of the "Free Generation" have stated that they give the NGO "Free Zone" ten days for its self-liquidation. At about midnight of September 30, the "Free Zone" office was attacked by about 40-50 people.

The rally of the supporters of the NGO "Free Zone" began at 2:00 p.m.; and their opponents began theirs at 3:00 p.m. Both sides were constantly shouting insults and recriminations. However, the police managed to prevent clashes, the "Caucasian Knot" reports.

"In fact, today, the police have succeeded in preventing clashes. To hold two rallies at the same time is quite democratic. However, the real situation with the police was revealed the day before yesterday, when several dozens of people tried to break into the 'Free Zone' office and no one was brought to justice for that fact," the "Caucasian knot" correspondent was told by Giga Bokeriya, one of the leaders of the "United National Movement" Party, who took part in the rally organized by the NGO's supporters.
