Explosion in Grozny is the first suicide bombing in Chechnya this year

The explosion, which occurred in Isaev Avenue in Grozny, has become the first suicide bombing in Chechnya committed this year after the explosion near the building of the Sunzha ROVD (District Interior Division) of Chechnya committed in September 2013. In total, during 21 months of 2013 and 2014, in the territory of the region, two suicide bombings were committed and at least 13 explosions occurred.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Sunday, an explosion occurred in the centre of Grozny before the concert dedicated to the Day of the City. As a result, five policemen were killed and 12 persons were injured.

The recent suicide bombing prior to the today's explosion was committed in Chechnya on September 16, 2013, in the village of Sernovodsk, where a vehicle drove up to the ROVD building and blew up. The explosion, which, according to the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), was committed by the vehicle's driver, killed three policemen and injured four others.

The explosion near the building of the Sunzha ROVD was the only suicide bombing committed in Chechnya in 2013.

Prior to that, a suicide bombing was committed in Chechnya on August 6, 2012, in the Oktyabrsky District of Grozny, when two suicide bombers blew themselves up near the "Voentorg" store. The terror act killed four soldiers and injured several other persons.
