Moscow: AI's protesters demand to find customers of Politkovskaya's murder

In Moscow, a memorial ceremony took place near the building of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta". It was organized by the international human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI); its participants demanded to find those who had ordered the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya. According to Sergey Nikitin, the head of the AI' representative office in Russia, the trial of the case on the murder of Anna Politkovskaya "had failed to give answers to a lot of questions."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today is eight years after the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, who worked as an observer for the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" and wrote articles about Chechnya and Northern Caucasus. In the course of the event in memory of Anna Politkovskaya, her colleagues, friends and associates, in total, about 100 people, gathered near the building of the office of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".

When laying flowers at the memorial plaque, Sergey Nikitin called Anna Politkovskaya a "symbol of modern journalism, a symbol of freedom of speech for all of us."

The need to continue the investigation into the Anna Politkovskaya's murder was also emphasized by Alexander Cherkasov, the Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". He noted that the materials on enforced disappearance of six persons in Chechnya in 2001 mention the name of Russian officer Igor Strelkov, who was put on the wanted list by the Ukrainian authorities.

Meanwhile, according to Alexander Cherkasov, there is a new generation of journalists of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", who are "inspired by the example of Anna Politkovskaya."
