On September 29-October 5, 2014, 24 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of September 29-October 5, 2014, at least 24 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 11 persons were killed, and 13 others were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes six suspected members of the armed underground three in Dagestan, two – in Kabardino-Balkaria, and one in Chechnya; and five law enforcers in Chechnya.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On September 30, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, introduced on September 27 in connection with the search for militants on the border of the Kazbek and Gumbet Districts of Dagestan, was lifted. Until present, no results of the special operation were reported.

On October 2, in the settlement of Vremenny, Untsukul District of Dagestan, where the special operation launched on September 18 is still underway, law enforcers clashed with militants. An OMON (riot police) fighter was wounded, and three suspected militants were killed.

On October 5, the CTO regime was introduced in the Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. In the course of a special operation carried out on the outskirts of the village of Psykhurei, two suspected members of the armed underground were killed. According to official information, they were identified as Zaurbiy Orshedugov and Nurabi Tlepshev.

Bombings and terror acts

In the evening of October 5, Grozny was to host a concert dedicated to the Day of the City. Policemen noticed a suspicious young man near the metal detectors installed at the entrance to the concert hall. When they decided to search him, the man committed a suicide bombing. The explosion killed five policemen, and 12 others were injured. According to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the suicide bomber was identified as Opti Mudarov, a 19-year-old local resident.

Disappearances and kidnappings

On September 27, one of the residents of the city of Kizilyurt reported on appearance of Sakhratula Magomedov, a city resident, who disappeared earlier. On September 25, according to Sakhratula's relatives, he was kidnapped by unidentified persons. On September 26, his relatives held a protest action in front of the building of the inter-district OVD (Interior Division) for the Kizilyurt District demanding to find the whereabouts of the kidnapped man.

On October 3, according to an eyewitness, Djabrail Nabiev, a resident of Khasavyurt, was kidnapped by a group of armed men in masks. He was on his way to the bus station to pick up an order and to go to Buynaksk from there, but was kidnapped. The kidnappers arrived in two cars. Djabrail Nabiev tried to render resistance; however, he was forced into one of kidnappers' cars.
