NAC: men killed at police checkpoint in Dagestan took part in murders of religious leaders
Three suspected members of an illegal armed formation (IAF), who were shot dead by policemen at a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) near the village of Khebda of the Shamil District of Dagestan, were involved in the assassinations of prominent religious figures Sirazhutdin Khuriksky and Shamil Badaviev. This was announced by the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of Wednesday, in the village of Khebda, three men opened fire on a police checkpoint. The attackers were killed by return fire. They are preliminary identified as Nazim, Murad, and Sabir Rashidov. According to the law enforcement bodies, all three men were on the federal wanted list.
According to the operational headquarters of the NAC, the killed men were involved in a number of terrorist crimes, including attempts to assassinate law enforcers, murders of civilians and assassinations of religious leaders, robbery and extortion of large amounts from local entrepreneurs.
In particular, they assassinated famous religious figures Sirazhutdin Khuriksky (Israfilov) and Shamil Badaviev. Both religious leaders were condemning violence and extremist views.
