Police explain checks of passports in Grozny by searching for dangerous criminal

On October 10, passport checks in the village of Butenko of the Staropromyslovsky District of Grozny were carried out as measures of the search for a dangerous criminal, who had committed a series of violent crimes in Chechnya. This was reported by the spokesman of the Chechen police.

On October 10, residents of the village of Butenko reported on a large number of soldiers and policemen in the village. Besides, the villagers have reported that law enforcers were going around households.

The passport checks affected not all the villagers, but only residents of the houses located in the "main streets" of the village, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the spokesman of the Chechen police.

"We have got the information that a very dangerous criminal, who is wanted for a series of violent crimes committed in the territory of the Chechen Republic, may be hiding in one of the private houses of the village. The operation lasted for several hours," the law enforcer has said.

According to residents of the village of Butenko, they felt very anxious about the arrival of law enforcers, who came to the village in dozens of cars and armoured vehicles.
