ECtHR to deal with complaint of Leyla and Arif Yunus in the priority order

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ruled that the complaint of the rights defender Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunus, arrested in Azerbaijan, will be considered in the priority order, said their advocate Khalid Bagirov. Besides, the ECtHR has obliged the government of Azerbaijan to inform the ECtHR on the applicants' health status on a monthly basis.

Bagirov said that the defence had filed a complaint to the ECtHR against the arrest of Yunus spouses, claiming violations of their right to liberty and security guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

He also has treated the ECtHR's demand to the government of Azerbaijan to inform, once a month, the ECtHR about the state of health and the course of treatment of Leyla and Arif Yunus as essential, since, according to his version, it will ensure the provision of adequate medical care to the applicants.

He stressed that the detention had a negative impact on the health of Leyla and Arif Yunus, adding that the ECtHR's procedures do not fix any specific deadlines for considering such complaints.
