In Baku, protestors adopt resolution demanding to release political prisoners and hold electoral reform (+video)

On Sunday, Baku has hosted an opposition rally, which participants demanded to release political prisoners.

According to Fuad Gakhramanly, the Deputy Chairman of the "People's Front" Party, one of the organizers of the protest action, the rally was attended by 7000 people. According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the rally was some 2500-3000 people strong. The Chief Directorate of Police for the city of Baku has reported that the rally was attended by only 900 people.

The participants of the opposition rally have adopted a resolution demanding to immediately and unconditionally release the political prisoners, ensure fundamental freedoms and electoral reform, including the restoration of a proportional system of parliamentary elections and changes in the composition of election commissions. Besides, the protestors demand from the authorities to announce the intention to sign the Association Agreement with the EU.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan" was disseminated on August 8 and it included 97 names. Human rights defender Intigam Aliev was arrested after the dissemination of the above list. The public activists have recognized Intigam Aliev as a political prisoner, and thus, the total number of political prisoners reached 98 persons.
