"Caucasian Knot" does not confirm FSB information on twofold reduction of number of terror acts

This year, as a result of coordinated law enforcement and prevention activities, the number of terrorist crimes has reduced more than two times in comparison with the same period of the past year. This has been reported today by Alexander Bortnikov, the Director of the Russian FSB, the Chairman of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) at the NAC meeting in Moscow.

According to Alexander Bortnikov, since the beginning of 2014, 69 terrorist crimes were committed. As a result, 41 law enforcers were killed, and other 125 law enforcers were wounded.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" analysis of the statistics in the section "Northern Caucasus: statistics of victims", in 2014, in the North-Caucasian regions, the number of terror act and other terrorist crimes declined not twice, but by one-third, and it reached 15 versus 22 in 2013. Meanwhile, according to the "Caucasian Knot", in 2014, in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD), the number of killed law enforcers is lower than that indicated in the report of Alexander Bortnikov, the Russian FSB Director: since the beginning of 2014, in the North-Caucasian regions, 37 law enforcers were killed, and other 115 were wounded. The presented information concerns the NCFD and the SFD only, for the period of January 1-October 13, 2014.
