Krasnodar activist Martynov has every reason to receive political asylum in Ukraine, rights defenders believe

Vyacheslav Martynov, an activist from Krasnodar, who has applied to Ukrainian authorities for political asylum, in connection with charges of extremism after he had protested against Russia's policy in Ukraine, has every reason to obtain the appropriate asylum status, said the Kharkov Human Rights Group.

Boris Zakharov, the head of the Defence Centre of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the Russian activist had filed a petition for receiving a refugee status.

"He has applied for refugee status and has every legitimate reasons to receive it. However we know nothing about his future plans," said Boris Zakharov.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the press service of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Ukraine that applications about granting political asylum are usually considered within six months.
