Mikhail Savva, convicted in Krasnodar under fraud case, prepares appeal to ECtHR

After an unsuccessful attempt to appeal against the verdict passed in the case against Mikhail Savva, Professor of the Kuban State University (KSU), accused of a fraud, his defence is preparing an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2 Professor Mikhail Savva, who is also the director of grant programmes of the Southern Regional Resource Centre (SRRC), was found guilty by the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Krasnodar of a fraud and sentenced to three years of imprisonment. The verdict was appealed against, but on September 30 the Krasnodar Regional Court upheld it.

According to Marina Dubrovina, an advocate for the Professor, at least Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) (the right to a fair trial) was violated in relation to her client. The claim to the ECtHR will be submitted in the near future, said Dubrovina.
