Monitoring Centre of Political Prisoners set up in Azerbaijan

A new NGO named "Monitoring Centre of Political Prisoners" (MCPP) has been established in Azerbaijan. Its founders are going to focus on protecting the rights of political prisoners and reporting about facts of harassment.

The founders of the new NGO include the members of the already existing social alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners" – former "prisoners of conscience" Elshan Gasanov, Tural Abbasly, Akhad Mamedli and Rufat Gadjibeili. Another former Azerbaijani prisoner Mekhti Shamilli is also among the founders of the MCPP.

The new NGO will monitor the situation of political prisoners, draw up the lists thereof and fix all potential violations of the law in custody conditions and treatment of detainees and prisoners, Elshan Gasanov, who became the chairman of the MCPP, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.
