23 believers taken to police after namaz in Makhachkala

Today, after namaz (evening prayer) law enforcers have detained and took to the police 23 parishioners of the Salafi mosque in Makhachkala. All the detainees were registered and released, the congregation reported later.

One of the mosque-goers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity that the incident took place at a mosque in Kotrov Street.

"A police UAZ van and a bus drove up; and all the Muslims, who were coming out of the mosque, where invited in," he said.

According to the source, the detentions were undertaken with the aim to register Salafi mosque-goers.

"As usually, they fingerprinted the believers, recorded their passport data, made photos and asked to fill in the questionnaire. Nobody is surprised any longer. If you start resisting, in the best case they will open an administrative, or even a criminal case. It's quite easy to find a reason," said the source.

In total, 23 people were detained; and as of 8 p.m., they were all released, said another parishioner named Akhmed.
