Prior to his disappearance in 2012, Khasan Zalikhanov, killed in Nalchik, was a policeman

Khasan Zalikhanov, who was killed in a firefight in Nalchik on October 18, used to be a policeman prior to his disappearance in 2012. The law enforcement bodies associate his disappearance with the fact that he joined the armed underground.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 18, inspectors of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) were shelled in Nalchik. According to the law enforcers, as a result of the firefight, one attacker and one policeman were killed, and one more law enforcer was wounded. The killed attacker was identified as Khasan Zalikhanov, born in 1987, an active member of the armed underground since 2012.

According to investigators, before he joined the armed underground, Khasan Zalikhanov worked as an instructor for service and combat training at the Nalchik UVD (Interior Department). When Khasan Zalikhanov was killed, the law enforcers found with him his service pistol he got when he used to work as the policeman.

According to one version, Khasan Zalikhanov joined the militants, when he came under the influence of his friend, who was released after he had served his sentenced for the case of attempt on lives of law enforcers.

On December 7, 2012, Khasan Zalikhanov did not appear at his work, and a criminal case was instituted against him. Besides, his mother filed a complaint about his disappearance, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The police continue searching for other participants of the firefight.
