Over 3000 Internet users sign in support of Stavropol rights defender Bogatenkova

Lyudmila Bogatenkova, the head of the organization "Mothers from Kuma River Area" from Budyonnovsk, who has been engaged in investigating the deaths of Russian soldiers in Ukraine, is accused of fraud. People, who treat the situation with Lyudmila Bogatenkova as a provocation, are collecting signatures in the Internet in her support. The Human Rights Council (HRC) has intervened in the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, 73-year-old Lyudmila Bogatenkova was detained in Budyonnovsk after a search in the office of her organization. She was charged with fraud.

According to investigators, in the period of November 2011-June 2012, Lyudmila Bogatenkova embezzled the amount of 800,000 roubles belonging to citizen D. and promised to provide legal assistance in defending the interests of his son.

The Union of the Committees of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia has ceased all cooperation with Lyudmila Bogatenkova, said Valentina Melnikova, the executive secretary of the Union, as quoted by the portal "Kontury".

According to the "Moskovsky Komsomolets", Alexander Brod, a member of the of the Presidential Council for Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights (HRC), has drew his attention to possible violations against Lyudmila Bogatenkova.

Lydia Sviridova, the head of the Saratov branch of the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, believes that the case against Lyudmila Bogatenkova is fabricated. According to Lydia Sviridova, the purpose of the search was to find the source, from which Lyudmila Bogatenkova received the list of the persons killed and wounded in Ukraine.
