Azerbaijani CEC schedules municipal elections for December 23
In Azerbaijan, the voting at the next municipal elections will take place on December 23. The corresponding decision was made by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan.
According to the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, the municipal elections are to be held in the country upon the expiration of the five-year term of office of the municipal councils of the previous convocation. The five-year term is calculated from the date of the previous elections.
The preliminary unofficial results of the voting will be announced in the evening of December 23. The final official results are to be announced until January 17, 2015.
The number of seats in the municipal councils varies from 5 to 19, depending on the population of the municipality. In the course of the elections, people are to elect about 15,000 members of the municipal councils. This was noted by Akif Gurbanov, a CEC member, in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Let us remind you that on April 2, Malena Mård, the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, urged the Azerbaijani authorities to reform the electoral legislation and take measures to ensure the protection of human rights.
