Advocate of head of Committee "Mothers from Kuma River Area" appeals against arrest of rights defender

Andrei Sabinin, an advocate of rights defender Lyudmila Bogatenkova, the Chair of the organization "Mothers from Kuma River Area", has reported on filing an appeal against the decision of the Budyonnovsk City Court to take Lyudmila Bogatenkova into custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, 73-year-old Lyudmila Bogatenkova was detained in Budyonnovsk after the search in the office of her organization. The rights defender was charged with fraud, and the Court pronounced the decision to arrest her.

On October 18, the woman was transported to the Pyatigorsk SIZO (pre-trial prison) "White Swan", and on October 20, it became known that Lyudmila Bogatenkova signed recognizance not to leave and returned home: the Pyatigorsk SIZO refused to admit her for health reasons. On October 21, Lyudmila Bogatenkova was hospitalized on the cardiology ward of the Budyonnovsk central hospital.

The advocate has also clarified that the first ambulance, which arrived on call, refused to take Lyudmila Bogatenkova to the hospital. He had to appeal to the Budyonnovsk Mayor.

Let us remind you that in recent months, Lyudmila Bogatenkova was engaged in investigating the circumstances of the deaths of Russian soldiers in hostilities in Ukraine in July-August 2014. In August, she passed to the Presidential Council for Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights (HRC) the information on nine Russian soldiers declared perished in the Rostov Region.
