Azerbaijan saves oilers who fell into sea during accident at oil-extraction platform

All the 12 oilers who fell into the sea as a result of the accident that occurred on Platform No. 441 of the Oil and Gas Extraction Department (OGED) "Narimanovneft" of the country’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) countries. Five of them needed medical help.

A collapse of Platform No. 441, which resulted in oilers’ trailers fall into the sea, occurred on Thursday afternoon. As a result of a pipeline rupture, a fire burst out.

The rescue and fire-extinguishing operations involved special rescue units, helicopters and fire-fighting boat "Vikhr” (Whirlwind) of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Azerbaijan, as well as the vessels of the Azerbaijani State Shipping Company.

The reasons of the accident are under investigation, the SOCAR said in its statement.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from a source from the MfE that the platform, where the accident occurred, is located two kilometres off the seashore near the settlement of Sangachal, which houses a major oil
