Moscow commemorates "Nord-Ost" victims on anniversary of hostage-taking

An action dated to the anniversary of the capture by terrorists of the viewers of the musical "Nord-Ost" was held in Moscow with attendance of several hundred people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year marks 12 years after the tragedy, in which on October 23, 2002, during the performance of the musical "Nord-Ost" militants, who demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities in Chechnya, captured 916 spectators of the performance as hostages. Three days later, on October 26, 2002, a special operation was undertaken to free the hostages. In the course of it, according to official sources, 40 militants and 130 civilians were killed and more than 700 others were injured.

The main commemorative events are scheduled for October 26, but yesterday, the anniversary of the hostage-taking, Moscow also hosted a memory action at the Dubrovka Theatrical Centre.

The rally was organized by NGO "Nord-Ost", the "Evening Moscow" reports.

On October 26, the commemoration events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the square at the Theatrical Centre, the Moscow portal "My District" reports.
