In Azerbaijan, Hilal Mamedov returns to prison after his daughter's wedding

In Azerbaijan, Hilal Mamedov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado", has returned to the penal colony No. 17 after the celebration of his daughter's wedding. He has expressed the hope that the possibility for a temporary stay on the loose will be available to other prisoners.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 23, Hilal Mamedov was temporarily released from the penal colony. He was given the opportunity to attend the celebration of his daughter's wedding, which was held in Baku on October 24.

"We have been told that this is the first time when an inmate of a high-security colony is temporarily set free," noted Sabakhaddin Mamedov, a brother of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado".

Hilal Mamedov believes an initiative shown by human rights defenders, in particular, Arzu Abdullaeva, has significantly contributed to the decision to grant him a temporary stay on the loose.

Hilal Mamedov may be released soon. This opinion has been expressed by one of the advocates defending the rights of human rights defenders and journalists. The advocate has stated that the authorities' decision to grant Hilal Mamedov a temporary stay on the loose "proves the authorities do not adhere to the tough position anymore."

According to the advocate, the problem of political prisoners is being harshly criticized by the international community, and therefore, it is possible that some activists will be released to calm down the above criticism.
