Two Dagestanis sentenced for plotting terror act at chemical weapons destruction plant

Nurpashi Budaichiev and Kamil Batdalov, natives of Dagestan, are sentenced to 11 and 12.5 years of imprisonment on charges of plotting a terror act on a chemical weapons destruction plant "Maradykovsky" in the Kirov Region. Advocates of the convicts claim fabrication of the criminal case and announce their intention to challenge the court's decision at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 14, 2013, at one of the abandoned houses of the town of Kotelnich of the Kirov Region, law enforcers found a hiding with components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Investigators believe that criminals planned to use them to commit a terror act at the chemical weapons storage and destruction facility "Maradykovsky". Two natives of Dagestan were detained on suspicion of plotting a terror act.

In his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Muslim Djamalutdinov, an advocate from the Moscow Advocates' Association "Titul", who represented interests of Nurpashi Budaichiev at the trial, claimed the charge was far-fetched. According to the advocate, the sentenced Dagestani natives were provoked to arrive in the Kirov Region by a native of Dagestan, who cooperated with the law enforcement bodies and who was involved in the criminal case as a hidden witness.

According to Muslim Djamalutdinov, family members of the sentenced Dagestani natives intend to appeal against the court's decision. "They are ready to go up to the ECtHR," the advocate has concluded.
