Azerbaijan: advocate states deterioration of Intigam Aliev's health
The health status of the arrested rights defender Intigam Aliev has worsened, his lawyer Djavad Djavadly and relatives have reported. The defence intends to appeal against the decision to extend Aliev's arrest, said the advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Nasimi District Court of Baku, acting under the presentation of the Prosecutor's Office, arrested Intigam Aliev for three months; and the Court of Appeal (CoA) upheld the decision. Aliev is accused of tax evasion, abuse of power and illegal entrepreneurship. On September 12, 2014, Baku district court dismissed the petition lodged by Intigam Aliev, asking to change his freedom restraint from custody to home arrest.
In the course of the October 24 session of the Nasimi District Court, where extension of Aliev's arrest was considered, the rights defender felt bad, said Djavad Djavadly, adding that the defence would appeal against the decision to extend Aliev's arrest. "Keeping Intigam Aliev in custody is unjustified not only from the viewpoint of the law, but also with account of his health condition," said the lawyer.
