Armenia: criminal case opened on policemen's violence against blind activist
The Special Investigating Service (SIS) of Armenia has initiated a criminal investigation into the violence used by policemen against a blind activist Alek Enigomshyan, said the press-service of the SIS; the case is now under inquiry.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 18 in Yerevan policemen detained Vagram Gabrielyan, an activist of the "Pre-Parliament". During his detention, policemen used force to another activist – a blind Alek Enigomshyan, who was then thrown alone on the road. This incident caused a public outcry in Armenia; and on October 21 Yerevan hosted a march in protest against the actions of the police. The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision of the police to start a service inquiry into the incident. According to their version, a criminal case should have been opened immediately.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the SIS that the criminal case was opened on the basis of the materials published by media.
