Bezdelov, former "Rosgranitsa" head, suspected of thefts at Olympic construction, detained in Italy
Dmitry Bezdelov, the former head of the Federal Agency for Improving Russia's Border (known as "Rosgranitsa"), who was on the wanted list on suspicion of embezzling the funds allocated for modernization of the border checkpoint in Adler for the 2014 Winter Olympics, was detained by police in Rome.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Investigating Department of the Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) declared Dmitry Bezdelov wanted back this April. Together with his father, Alexander Bezdelov, who is also wanted, he is suspected of embezzling a billion roubles, allocated for modernization of the above border checkpoint.
The detention took place in the Rome's prestigious Palladium Palace Hotel, the "Interfax" reports.
The Italian authorities are ready to begin the procedure of extradition of the ex-official – they have already notified the Russia's General Prosecutor's Office, the Russian branch of the Interpol and the above Investigating Department of the MIA, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
