Seven hunger-strikers continue demanding Abdulatipov's resignation

Maksud Gadjiev, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Akhvakh People", has joined the hunger strike demanding the resignation of the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29 NGO activists from different regions of Dagestan announced a hunger strike, stating their attempt to draw attention to the problem of corruption in the country and demand of resignation of Ramazan Abdulatipov.

Maksud Gadjiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that his goal is to draw – by means of the action – attention to the issue of indigenous minor nations of Dagestan.

"For a quarter of century already, the republic fails to pass any legislation on languages and indigenous peoples. All our appeals signed by ethnographers and linguists are responded with runarounds. The adoption of these important documents, necessary for the preservation of languages, is all the time postponed under various pretexts. That's why I had to resort to such an extreme measure," said Maksud Gadjiev.

To date, there are seven hunger-strikers, among them - Magomed Guseinov (Public Council of the city of Kranoarmeisk), Abdul Yakhiev, Zurab Kurbanov, Pasha Gadjiev (the Laks' National Council) and Kazikhan Kurbanov (Anticorruption Council of the Tabasaran District).
