Rally in KChR commemorates deportation victims
On Sunday, in Karachayevsk, at the Memorial to the victims of deportation of Karachay people, a mourning rally dedicated to the 71st anniversary of deportation took place. Ismail Haji Berdiev, the Chairman of the Coordinating Centre of North-Caucasian Muslims and the Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) performed the rite of "dua" in memory of the deceased.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Ruslan Khabov, the head of the KChR's regional public organization "Karachay Alan Khalk", recalled that in the years of the totalitarian regime acts of lawlessness affected other nationals – Russians, Cherkessians, Abazins and Nogais.
The rally was addressed by activists of public national organizations of the republic.
"Our duty is to always remember those who fell victim to political repressions, and to prevent the recurrence of terrible events," said Viktor Borodkin, the Ataman of the Batalpashin Division of the Kuban Cossack Army.
In May this year, by the Revival Day of Karachay People, in the village of Uchkeken, Malokarachay District of the KChR, a monument was opened aimed to perpetuate the memory of victims of the deportation. The sculpture was made by Magomet Khabichev, the People's Artist of the KChR.
