Chechen power agents promise rights defenders to check information about illegal detentions

The information about the persons, who suffered from illegal actions of power agents at night on October 28 in the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny, will be checked by the leadership of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). This agreement with the MIA bosses was reached during a roundtable dedicated to interaction of the federal and regional Councils for Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights.

The event was organized after the mass detentions that took place in the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny.

According to the results of the roundtable, a draft document will be designed on interaction of the Council for Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) under the head of Chechnya with law enforcement bodies, ministries and agencies, Kheda Saratova, a member of the HRC, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She added that other problematic issues in the region were touched on, in particular, the issues of the housing and municipal services, health care, abductions and detentions.

The HRC should develop effective mechanisms of cooperating with the authorities in order to become a "needed and effective tool of the govt-society interaction," said the Moscow lawyer Zaurbek Sadakhanov, who is also an adviser to the Chechen Ombudsperson.
