Heavy rains flood houses and interrupt traffic in some regions of Georgia

In western regions of Georgia and in Adzharia (Adjara) heavy rains and snowfalls led to house flooding and blockage of highway sections.

Earlier, on November 2, as a result of heavy rains, the rescue service of Batumi, the capital of Adzharia received 20 messages about house flooding; and the village of Keda was hit by a landslide.

Western Georgia suffered from heavy rains: houses of Bashi villagers in Samtredia Municipality were flooded; small rivers spread over and flooded ground floors of residential buildings. According to local residents, livestock was lost, and their stocks accumulated for the winter were ruined. Villagers claim that they had taken loans, which are now impossible to repay because of the damage caused by the elements; and asking for help from the authorities.

Heavy rains created problems for villagers Chkhenishi and Etseri. The downtown of Samtredia got flooded because of the failure of the drainage canal.

In Adzharia, 12 families of the village of Gantiadi, Khelvachauri Municipality, are in danger because of the change of the route of the Korolistskali River, which was caused by a sharp rise in the water level.

As a result of a snowfall, the traffic was stopped over the mountain pass Goderdzi in the Khuloy Municipality of Adzharia. Rescuers saved 9 cars and shuttle taxis from under the snow, the "InterpressNews" quotes Gennady Shavadze, an employee of the Khuloy Rescue Service.
