Grozny residents report massive passport checks
In the morning on November 4, in the central part of the Chechen capital, law enforcers carried out mass check of IDs of residents of apartment buildings, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. Residents of Grozny associate holding of "passport checks" with the today's celebration of the Russian National Unity Day.
According to the Grozny residents, which apartments were visited by law enforcers, they have not received any explanation concerning the purpose of the checks.
The local residents believe that the Chechen authorities fear a repetition of the events of October 5 in Grozny, when the terror act occurred in one of the central avenues of the Chechen capital.
On November 2, on the eve of the celebration of the National Unity Day, the Chechen law enforcement bodies were transferred to enhanced service. Besides, the Chechen Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has established an operational headquarters for the solution of questions regarding security measures during the holidays.
