Russia's SC starts considering complaint of KChR residents accused of aiding terrorism

The Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation has begun considering the appeal complaint lodged by 13 figurants of the criminal case, convicted for attempting to seize power, organization of an illegal armed formation and participation in it, and activities of aiding terrorist. The next session is scheduled for November 17.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, the SC of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) sentenced to prison terms ranging from 10 years and 6 months to 12 years the above 13 defendants, whose defence then declared the far-fetched nature of the charges.

On the first day of consideration, the defence of Arthur Ismayilov moved a petition to change his freedom restraint measure and release him from liability in connection with his health condition. However, the court dismissed the petition referring to the need to provide a conclusion of the medical commission on the diagnosis. The second part of the petition on changing the restraint measure was dismissed without motivation, said the advocate Makhmud Gadjiev.

The experts, earlier interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", expressed their doubts about the justification of the charges in the case, while treating the repressive practices of law enforcement bodies as a catalyst of radicalization of dissenting young people.
