Dismissed Astrakhan Mayor sentenced to 10 years in prison on bribery charges
On Wednesday, the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan found Mikhail Stolyarov, the dismissed Mayor of Astrakhan, guilty of bribery and sentenced him to 10 years in a high security colony and a fine, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The court has concluded that the evidence of his guilt under Article 290 (large-scale bribery) of the Criminal Code was sufficient and established that he took bribes for his personal benefits, finding that the size of the bribe and his share in the authorized capital had been agreed by Stolyarov and entrepreneur in advance.
Apart from 10 years in a high security colony and a fine of 500 million roubles, the court issued a ban for Stolyarov to hold public office for three years. Thus, Stolyarov received the punishment that was demanded by the prosecution. The defence demanded to acquit him. The case was heard in the Kirov District Court starting from April 18. Stolyarov has stated his innocence.
