In Nakhichevan, PFPA activists report disappearance of one of them
In the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Yashar Bagirsoy, the head of the regional branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), reports about disappearance of Khidjran Gasymov, a local activist of the opposition organization. Bagirsoy believes that Gasymov was detained by law enforcement bodies; however, according to his story, the police did not confirm this information.
According to relatives of Khidjran Gasymov, on November 3 unidentified persons put him into a car in the village of Bananyarly of the Djulfa District of the NAR, where he lives, and took away to some unknown place, Yashar Bagirsoy told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He added that the police did not confirm the activist's detention.
"Gasymov was a very quiet man; he was a private hire taxi driver. At the same time, he was engaged in political activities – he headed Djulfa district organization of our party. At the last year's presidential election, he took an active part in the campaign in favour of Djamil Gasanly, the candidate from the National Council of Democratic Forces," said Bagirsoy.
Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chairman of the PFPA, has drawn attention to the date of the activist's disappearance – November 3, that is, on the eve of the Tasura and Ashura Days.
"Gasymov is a believer; and, perhaps, law enforcers decided to temporarily isolate him for fear of political protests during the mourning ceremonies," said Bairamly.
