After split in Georgia, Alasaniya's party will act independently, political analysts assert
For some time after the split, the "Free Democrats" Party of the former Defence Minister Irakli Alasaniya will not cooperate with the ruling coalition or with the "United National Movement" (UNM), and will act as an independent power, trying to achieve a good result at the next parliamentary elections, said the political experts, polled by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 4 the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili dismissed Irakli Alasaniya from the post of Defence Minister; and on the following day, Alasaniya stated that his "Free Democrats" Party would leave the ruling coalition.
The economist Georgy Khukhashvili, the former adviser to the ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, believes that the most important thing for Alasaniya today is not enter a coalition with the UNM.
"He was right to renounce his alliance with the UNM, as in this union he would be just politically neglected," said Khukhashvili.
The fact that in the near future Alasaniya can afford a waiver of association with other parties was also confirmed by Nika Chitadze, a political scientist and Professor at the Black Sea International University.
"In the next two years, up to the parliamentary elections of 2016, the 'Free Democrats' will try to prove to us that they are an independent force that can become the leader of all other pro-Western parties," Mr Chitadze has suggested.
Besides, in his opinion, today, the "Free Democrats" are trying to take the niche, presently occupied by the UNM – the main opposition force in the Parliament.
