Intigam Aliev, rights defender, arrested in Azerbaijan, has health problems
The health status of the arrested human rights activist Intigam Aliev, who had earlier identified problems with his musculoskeletal system, has deteriorated. Because of his poor health, on November 7, he was forced to early terminate his meeting with relatives.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Nasimi District Court of Baku, acting under the presentation of the Prosecutor's Office, arrested Intigam Aliev for three months; and the Court of Appeal (CoA) upheld the decision. Aliev is accused of tax evasion, abuse of power and illegal entrepreneurship. On September 12, 2014, Baku district court dismissed the petition lodged by Intigam Aliev, asking to change his freedom restraint from custody to home arrest.
On November 7, Intigam Aliev was visited by his daughter Narmin Kamilsoy, who stated the deterioration of his health.
"With every other day, my father is getting worse. He suffers from severe headaches and insomnia. For 15 days already, he hardly sleeps. It's hard for him even to stand on his feet. The prescribed medications have no effect; on the contrary, they add to the negative impact on his psychological status," Narmin Kamilsoy told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The defence has asked the Penitentiary Service to place Aliev to the prison hospital; the advocates also intend to petition again about replacing custody by home arrest.
