In Georgia, Alasaniya's party decides to take part in 2016 parliamentary elections
The Georgian Party "Free Democrats" led by the former Defence Minister Irakli Alasaniya, will participate in the next parliamentary elections of 2016, said the party leader during the today's party congress.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 4 the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili dismissed Irakli Alasaniya from the post of Defence Minister; and on the following day, Alasaniya stated that his "Free Democrats" Party would leave the ruling coalition.
Today, Irakli Alasaniya, who was dismissed from his post of the Defence Minister, has officially headed the "Free Democrats" Party. His appointment was unanimously supported by 2038 delegates of the Third Party Congress, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
"During the two years, when the 'Free Democrats' were in power within the 'Georgian Dream' coalition, Georgia took the irreversible path of integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures; and it should go on along this path," Alasaniya has stated today.
He believes that now, "being in opposition is not going to be easy." However, the party will support the authorities and other political parties in decision-making, which are "correct for the state and the public," thereby "starting a new type of cooperation in Georgian politics," said Alasaniya.
