Baku rally adopts resolution demanding to release political prisoners (+video)
Today, the Azerbaijani opposition rally has been finished with the adoption of the resolution demanding to release political prisoners, hold the electoral reform, solve social problems, and deepen the process of Azerbaijan's integration with Europe. The action was attended by about 700 people. This was announced by Fuad Gakhramanly, a member of the rally committee, the Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).
The action under the slogan "Release!" was held at the stadium of the sport and recreational complex in the Yasamal District. The rally was organized by the opposition National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF). During this month, this is the second action demanding to release political prisoners.
The action was started with a speech delivered by Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who announced the "repressive regime" had been established in Azerbaijan.
According to Professor of History Djamil Gasanli, the leader of the NCDF, there are more than 100 political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The Professor has noted that "in the today's world, even the absolute monarchies do not have such a large number of jailed critics of the power."
During the action, speeches were interrupted by the people who were shouting the slogans: "Resign!" meaning the resignation of President Ilham Aliev.
In conclusion, the rally has adopted a resolution demanding to release political prisoners, ensure political freedom, and stop pressure on the parties, NGOs, and the media.
