On November 3-9, seven persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of November 3-9, 2014, at least seven persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, two persons were killed, and five others were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes one suspected member of the armed underground and one law enforcer, both of them in Kabardino-Balkaria.
Attacks on law enforcers
On November 5, at about 8:40 a.m. Moscow time, in Ashurov Street in Nalchik, unidentified persons shelled policeman Aslan Mashukov when he left his house and wanted to cross the street to take his car from the parking lot. At that moment, two unidentified persons opened fire in the direction of the police inspector. Aslan Mashukov died at the place from the wounds.
Special and counterterrorist operations
Starting from 3:30 p.m. of November 4, a counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the territory of the village of Chegem-2 of the Chegem District of Kabardino-Balkaria. Several militants were blocked in a private house and yard not far from the "Lashin" Restaurant. Residents of the houses located near the place of the special operation were evacuated. According to a source in the law enforcement bodies, when offered to lay down arms, two militants blocked in the private house opened fire. One of the militants was killed during the assault of the private house. He is preliminary identified as Timur Bakhov, a bomber, who used to provide the "Vilayat of Kabarda, Balkaria and Karachay" and the "Imarat Kavkaz" with improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In the morning of November 5, the special operation was resumed. While law enforcers were examining blocked house and yard, an IED was activated. As a result of the explosion, four law enforcers were injured. The CTO regime in the village was lifted.
Starting from 6:00 p.m. of November 7, the CTO regime was introduced in the territory of the Shamil District of Dagestan. In the Shamil District, law enforcers carry out the activities to search and neutralize members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and their accomplices.
On November 9, at 4:20 p.m. Moscow time, the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Djuli of the Tabasaran District of Dagestan, and law enforcers carry out the activities to search for members of the armed underground.
Detentions
On November 7, in Makhachkala, after namaz (prayer), policemen detained five believers of the mosque located in Hungarian Fighters Street, where earlier, a conflict between mosque-goers and law enforcers had occurred. According to eyewitnesses, the law enforcers approached the mosque. Then, they forced mosque-goers into a white Priora car and then took them away to some unknown destination. Meanwhile, the law enforcers wore civilian clothes. Later, it became known that city residents were brought to the Soviet ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala.
