Six hunger-strikers who demand resignation of Dagestani leader intend to resume their action

Six Makhachkala hunger-strikers, who demand resignation of Ramazan Abdulatipov, the head of Dagestan, have decided to continue the action, stating that they will continue it until they see the documents and draft decisions to meet their demands.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the hunger strike in a house in a Makhachkala outskirt is held from October 29. The protesters assert that they try to draw attention to the problem of corruption in the republic and achieve resignation of Ramazan Abdulatipov. On November 9, the protesters decided to temporarily suspend the hunger strike to give Dagestani authorities time to fulfil their demands.

This intention to continue the action was announced today by Zurab Kurbanov, one of the hunger-strikers.

"We've held a discussion, and decided to go on with the hunger strike, since we don't believe the authorities' promises. They've been deceiving us for many years. On November 9, at a meeting with our representatives, Dagestani officials said that special commissions would be set up and work plans drafted to address each of our demands. They said that the documents would be ready within two days. We'll wait for that, let it be a particular project or agreement. We demand a particular document, containing an action plan aimed to fulfil our demands," Zurab Kurbanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
