"Memorial" asks Russia's SC to postpone consideration of society's liquidation
The Russian Society "Memorial" has appealed to the Supreme Court (SC) asking to reschedule the consideration of the claim of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on liquidation of the Society from November 13 to a later day, Arseniy Roginskiy, the head of the Society, said today. On November 20, at the conference of the "Memorial", rights defenders intend to discuss and eliminate the MoJ's claims.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russia's SC had scheduled the consideration of the claim of the MoJ on liquidation of the Russian Society "Memorial" for November 13.
As noted today by Arseniy Roginskiy, the November 13 session will take place in any case; however, the consideration of the MoJ's lawsuit can be postponed.
"The reaction to our appeal may arrive no sooner than the session begins. It's hard to predict. But if the decision is rational, the consideration will be postponed," the "Interfax" quotes the "Memorial" leader as saying.
Let us remind you that on November 8, Ella Pamfilova, the Russian Ombudsperson, addressed the Russian President Vladimir Putin urging him to recommend the MoJ to recall the lawsuit on liquidation of the "Memorial" from the Russia's SC.
Today, Dmitry Peskov, Putin's press secretary said that Pamphilova's appeal may be considered only after Putin's return from his tour abroad, which will last until November 16.
