Court upholds refusal to postpone punishment of figurant in Anna Politkovskaya's murder case
Today, the Moscow City Court has refused to grant the appeal to postpone the punishment for ex-militiaman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, who was sentenced for involvement in the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta". Advocates of Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov have filed a motion to postpone the punishment, since Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov was diagnosed with a number of diseases.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 14, 2012, the Moscow City Court sentenced ex-militiaman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov to 11 years of imprisonment. The defence of Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov requested to postpone execution of punishment because of his health state. On September 15, the Moscow City Court dismissed the motion filed by the advocates of Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, referring to the fact that medical examination revealed no persistent disorders of the Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov's body that would prevent vital activity. The defenders of sentenced Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov announced the intention to challenge the Court's decision.
The appeal was filed by defender Natalia Novikova. The advocate herself was reluctant to communicate with the journalists, who came to the consideration of the appeal. In the course of the today's court hearing, the advocate has completed her appeal and only clarified that "while being on his way to prison, Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov is in need of epileptologist, and his health condition is extremely grave."
