Azerbaijan partially closes sky for flights after incident with Mi-24
On November 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan announced the airspace over the "occupied territories" closed for flights. Such decision was made after the incident with the Mi-24 helicopter shot down yesterday in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Azerbaijan has declared the airspace over the occupied territories closed for flights and notified in the prescribed manner all members of the International Civil Aviation Organization," announced the statement of the Azerbaijani MFA, as quoted by the "Trend" on November 12.
In its statement, the Azerbaijani MFA has noted that the main cause of tension is the presence of the Armed Forces of Armenia on "occupied territories of Azerbaijan." To resolve the problem peacefully, the Armed Forces of Armenia are to be withdrawn "from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan," the Azerbaijani MFA's statement emphasizes.
The Armenian MFA has issued a statement containing counter accusations. "We strongly condemn the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces that shot down the Mi-24 helicopter, which was on a training flight," declared the statement of the Armenian MFA, as quoted today by the "News.am".
