Attack on military helicopter in Karabakh may lead to warfare resumption, Armenian political analysts suggest
The liquidation of the Mi-24 in the course of its training flight in Nagorno-Karabakh, was a provocation of the official Baku, said Galust Sahakyan, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the afternoon on November 12, in the area of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a military helicopter was shot down. The death of three members of the crew was reported.
According to Galust Sahakyan’s statements at the session of the Parliament on November 13, "this provocation is an obvious Azerbaijan's attempt to thwart the peace process and break all agreements on preserving the truce."
Ara Papyan, the head of the Centre "Modus Vivendi", has suggested that the incident could lead to large-scale warfare.
"The situation may become dangerous if the Azerbaijan's actions remain unpunished," said Papyan, adding that "the local incident with destruction of the helicopter may trigger a large-scale war." To avoid this, a direct involvement of the OSCE Minsk Group is needed, he said.
In their turn, the military experts from Baku interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe that the actions of the Azerbaijani party to shoot the helicopter down were quite legitimate; they do not believe that this incident may trigger any large-scale military actions in the region.
