Sakharov Award handed over to Azerbaijani political prisoners in Oslo
The Sakharov Prize, which has been awarded by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC) to Azerbaijani political prisoners, was handed over to laureates' relatives.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the NHC has motivated the awarding of 98 rights defenders, journalists and social activists from the list of political prisoners of Azerbaijan by the fact that they are exhibiting great courage and work a lot towards promoting democratic values and human rights in their country.
On November 13, at the awarding ceremony, Bard Glad Pedersen, the State Secretary under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, stressed that concerns about the situation with human rights in Azerbaijan had been voiced out for several years; however, in recent months the international community has witnessed a significant deterioration of the situation in the country.
