Head of Dagestani government demands to accelerate solving Tarki residents' problems
On November 17, Abdusamad Gamidov, the Prime Minister of Dagestan, issued an instruction to accelerate the fulfilment of the orders of the leader of Dagestan on the allocation of land to residents of the settlements of Tarki, Kyakhulai and Alburikent. In the opinion of Denis Sokolov, the head of the Research Centre RAMCOM, creation of the Tarki District in Makhachkala could solve the so-called "Karaman" problem.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 10 five residents of Tarki villages went on a hunger strike demanding to restore the Tarki District, which should include the territory of Karaman and the Mount Tarki-Tau.
According to Gamzat Khangishiev, the Co-Chair of the Presidium of the Russian Congress of Caucasian Nations, despite the positive outcomes of the meeting, the hunger strike continues. The health condition of the protesters is stable.
It was decided at the meeting that the working group will meet every day during a week to select "a piece of land, which is free of any conflicts."
As stated by Denga Khalidov, the adviser to the head of Dagestan, the government of the republic "is constantly working on the Karaman problem."
According to the above Denis Sokolov, the creation of the Tarki District would "remove many problems and reduce the heat of protest movements." As an example, the expert cited the experience of Karachay-Cherkessia, where the creation of ethnic districts in the republic has largely removed interethnic tensions.
