NAC: militant killed in Derbent was wanted for organizing bombings in Dagestan
As reported by the information centre of the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), as a result of a special operation conducted in Derbent, Velibeg Veliev, the leader of Suleiman-Stalsky militant grouping, who had been on the wanted list on suspicion of exploding policemen's cars, was killed.
On Friday, November 21, the city of Derbent was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. Power agents blocked a multi-storey building, in which, according to their data, suspected militants were hiding. When offered to surrender, they opened fire and were killed by return fire during the assault.
Police sources have reported that one of the casualties was a certain Veli Velibekov a field commander on militants in southern region of Dagestan.
According to the corrected data of the Dagestani MIA, the man was pre-identified as Velibeg Veliev, born in 1988, who was on the federal wanted list on suspicion of extorting large sums of money from businessmen and organization of explosions of police cars.
Also Veliev is suspected of triggering a homemade bomb near the road-and-post (DPS) checkpoint in the village Gereikhanovo, Suleiman-Stalsky District on September 10; power agents treated him as the leader of the Suleiman-Stalsky militant grouping.
