Azerbaijan: Ilgar Mamedov transferred to colony medical unit
Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the Azerbaijani civil movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), who is serving his prison term in Colony No. 2, was placed into the medical unit of the colony. His colleagues and advocate are concerned about his state of health and the lack of official information about the reasons thereof.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 17 Ilgar Mamedov was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of organizing mass riots in the city of Ismayilli on January 23-24, 2013.
Mamedov's transfer to the medical unit of Colony No. 2 was reported by the Board of the ReAl, adding that on November 12 Mamedov was visited by his advocate; and then the convict complained of health problems.
According to Natig Djafarli, the Executive Secretary of the ReAl, in the last three days, there was no information about Mamedov's health; therefore, according to his story, there is no official information about the reasons of Mamedov's transfer into the medical unit.
The Board of the ReAl has urged the Azerbaijani Ombudsman and the International Committee of the Red Cross to send their delegates to Mamedov and then inform the public and his family about his health condition.
